Help-seeking: Where’s the help? (Cost of living, 2021)

In this piece, Courtney Buckler (Executive Director) and Veronica Heney (Research Lead) reflect on the downfalls of thinking about help-seeking when it comes to self-harm. We suggest that instead of focussing on whether help is being sought, we should explore what kinds of help are actually available, and the benefits and risks of seeking it.

Support and Solidarity: Supporting LGBTQ+ People with Experience of Self-Harm (2021)

From March - June 2021, Make Space ran a series of events aimed at supporting LGBTQ+ people with experience of self-harm. One of the sessions was co-facilitated with Max Cohen (he/him) from It’s all about you wellbeing. The session explored the kinds of care LGBTQ+ people had received for self-harm in the past, and what we would like to see in the future.

While focussed on LGBTQ+ experiences of self-harm, the panel is a pertinent reflection on the state of medicine and healthcare more generally. Our excellent speakers cover abolition, collective care, racism and transphobia in medicine, and more.
